As part of Edge’s ongoing commitment to transparency and development in the open, the core team write weekly updates to the Edge community. This is the 146th of these updates.

Good evening everyone 👋

Today Wallet v1.10.4 was deployed to mainnet. The update marks the point of project readiness for open source, consisting of a tidied up code base and the resolution of some maintainability issues so that the community can more easily contribute to the project. There were a number of security improvements and performance updates in the release as well. And I think you’ll agree if you’ve used the wallet today, that the overall experience is much smoother.

If you haven’t tried it yet, head to https://wallet.xe.network/ and let us know what you think 🙂

The wallet was also open sourced in full. You can find the repository on the project GitHub here:

https://github.com/edge/wallet

Now that the wallet is open source, you can - and please do - have a poke around the code. If you see something that you think can be improved, why not open a pull request? As a reward, meaningful contributions will earn contributors a badge in Discord and the Code Contributor role too.

Behind the scenes we’ve been working on dynamic certificate generation, alongside the way that v2 manages configurations for network services. It’s all rather technical but it lays the groundwork for the integration of the new Edge account system (which is also coming along well). To begin with it will support Edge Compute, followed by Edge DNS, CDN, Storage, and more.

We have also been rolling out v2 of the DNS layer, with points of presence in 22 locations around the world to begin with. We’re working on integrating this into the Edge account system as well, and will be opening it up as a beta in the near future.

As you may have noticed by the not-so-insignificant number of stakes created over the last few days, this week we processed the first batch of stake migrations, with 151 stakes being migrated from the old system to the XE chain. We’ve also added 81 new nodes to the network.

Why not help us get to 100 nodes on v2 before the end of January? If you’re interested in contributing to the network, take a look at this handy guide: https://wiki.edge.network/contributing-to-the-network/setting-up-a-host

If you haven’t already requested your legacy stake migration, please do so by filling out the form here: https://ed.ge/stake-migration-request

Please ensure that you make your request with your Console account email to make it easier for us to process. Also for Founding Node requests, please include your original staking transaction or your device name if you can find it.

Don’t forget to check your inbox and spam messages for emails from the team confirming your request.

If anything is unclear, you can always ask in Discord or drop a community manager a DM.

We expect to be kicking off an engagement with an extremely exciting DAO project next week. This has been in planning for some time and makes use of a lot of what the network has to offer. I can’t wait to be able to reveal more. We also booked meetings with two major enterprises who are interested in green alternatives to the cloud. Watch this space.
