## What it actually costs

Runs per month = checks × locations × runs per check. Here's what real setups cost with standard checks.

Based on a 30-day month: a check runs 8,640 times at a 5-minute interval, 43,200 times at 1 minute, and 86,400 times at 30 seconds — per location. The first 150,000 standard runs each month are free; the rest are billed at $0.01 per 1,000. For example, the Startup setup: 1,296,000 − 150,000 = 1,146,000 billable runs ≈ $11.46. At this scale, comparable Datadog synthetics run roughly 70x the price.

### What is a check run?

One probe executed from one location. A check on a 5-minute interval running from 3 locations executes 3 runs every 5 minutes — 25,920 runs per month. Your monthly total is simply checks × locations × runs per check (8,640 per month at a 5-minute interval).

### What happens when my balance runs out?

Your checks pause. Nothing is deleted — your configuration, history, and status pages stay in place, and checks resume automatically as soon as you top up. Enable auto top-up to avoid monitoring gaps.

### How does this compare to per-monitor pricing?

Traditional tools charge a flat fee per monitor, regardless of how often it runs or from how many locations. Pulse only charges for the runs you actually execute, so you can tune checks, frequency, and locations freely. At scale, it works out around 70x cheaper than Datadog synthetics.

### How does billing work?

Usage is metered and deducted hourly from the same prepaid balance you use for Edge compute and other services. There are no subscriptions to commit to — top up when you need to, with auto top-up supported. You don't need a card to start.

### How long is monitoring data retained?

Data is retained for 7 days on free usage. Once your account has any paid usage, retention extends to 90 days.
