Weekly Update: W/C 22nd June, 2020

Happy Friday everyone 👋

This week the network team finished off the preparatory work required for the updates to the network backbone as we move to establish core services with a couple of new network partners, due online in the coming two weeks.

They also implemented a new method of building the network services, which allows us to build all versions of Host and Agent using a single machine, rather than requiring a machine for each arch type. This is a great step in reducing the time it takes to build for each device type.

A new method of updating CDN using an RPC call is being worked on. This is a more secure and faster approach vs. the current solution.

The way SSL certificates are generated and stored is being changed, removing the reliance on Consul as part of a shift away from the current heavy usage of the Consul KV store. As we've discussed previously, we're migrating off of Consul entirely to a fully native solution for the network, allowing us to optimise performance and deliver functionality specific to the Edge use case.

We finished distributed the latest batch of TNC swap requests. A further batch will be prepared and processed next week.

And Cookalong TV went live! Built on our tech and running in the Edge (currently CDN, but soon DNS and in a beta of compute), the site hosts video cooking sessions with celebrities in aid of charity. Check it out on: https://cookalong.tv

They have loads of celebrities signed up... expect to see more on site from next week.

The build went from design to live in two weeks, which is a good indication of the pace possible on the stack.

And that's it for this week. Enjoy your weekends.
