Minutes from box to network
No sign-up ceremony, no hardware requirements to shop for, no networking degree. If it runs Linux and stays on, it can contribute.
Install
One command, on anything that's always on — a Raspberry Pi, an old laptop, a homelab server, spare rack capacity. Docker or a single binary, any architecture.
Connect
Your device finds the nearest relay and introduces itself. It works from behind your home router — no port forwarding, no inbound connections, no firewall changes.
Work
Within minutes it starts pulling real jobs from the network, sized to what your machine can do. Then watch it live on the explorer — your device, on the map, working.
What your machine will do
Real jobs from real products — the same network that serves Edge's customers every day. Work is matched to your device's capabilities and pulled, never pushed.
Storage shards
Hold encrypted, erasure-coded fragments of backup data. Never a whole file, never readable — your machine stores ciphertext it cannot open.
Media processing
Resize images, convert formats, transcode video segments when nearby CDN nodes are under load. Pull the source, process, hand back the result.
Monitoring probes
Check websites and APIs from a real home connection — the view data centres can't see. This is what powers monitoring from thousands of everyday locations.
DNS checks
Confirm DNS changes have propagated to your corner of the world, and measure resolution speed from where real users actually are.
What it never does: run customer virtual machines, hold unencrypted customer data, or accept inbound connections. Your device pulls work, does it, and hands it back — a worker, not a server.

What you earn
Earnings follow work done — not just being online. A device that processes a thousand jobs earns more than one that idles, and reliable devices are trusted with more work over time.
There's nothing to buy and nothing to stake to get started. Reliability builds reputation; reputation brings work; work earns. That's the whole loop.
A note on expectations: this is not a passive-income scheme, and we won't pretend otherwise. Most contributors run a node because they want to be part of the network — the earnings are the thank-you, not the pitch.
Questions, answered straight
Can Edge see my data?
No — and your machine can't see Edge's either. Storage jobs carry encrypted shards of erasure-coded files: no single device ever holds a whole file, and keys never leave Edge's core infrastructure. Your device is a worker, not a window.
How much bandwidth will it use?
You set the limits. Jobs are sized and matched to the capacity you advertise, and monitoring probes are a few requests a minute. It's designed to be invisible on a normal home connection.
Will it run customer code or VMs?
No. Customer virtual machines run only on Edge's own hardware. Contributed devices do a fixed, published set of job types — storing encrypted shards, processing media, running probes. Nothing arbitrary, nothing inbound.
What does it cost me to run?
Electricity for a device most contributors were running anyway. A Pi draws a few watts; the software itself is deliberately lightweight and idles politely when there's no work.
What if I want to stop?
Switch it off. There's no lock-in and no penalty beyond reputation — the network re-replicates anything your device was holding within minutes, by design.
Do I need to know about crypto?
No. There's no wallet to set up, no token to buy, and nothing to stake to get started. You install, you contribute, you earn for the work your machine does.
