Hi everyone 👋
It’s been a manic week all told, so this is a late in the day update.
A series of limitations in relation to our use of Consul were discovered. This culminated in a partial outage in the Stargate layer which it took us several hours to resolve.
The team have been hard at work refactoring network ACL after it was discovered that the configurations for Vault, the system we use for token management, was hitting abnormally high CPU usage on boot, crashing Consul and causing the service outage.
This also led to me falling asleep on my keyboard on Wednesday night 😂
Work has continued on the new diskcache package which will reduce the load on Gateway memory and improve its ability to run more distributions.
And development on the new Console progressed apace. We hope to launch it in January.
The network team have also been migrating and repurposing devices in the network backbone, designed to optimise the location performance of the device set.
And a a new method of locating Stargates by proximity has been introduced, which has been deployed to production and is working well. We’ll be writing about this next week.
As part of this work the DNS methods in Stargate have also been improved, with these portions of the changes dues to be being deployed on Monday. (edited)
We pitched for a top 100 UK site this week for both Edit and Edge 🤞
And we had an AMA! You can read the transcript here: https://edge.network/en/knowledge/network/ama-recap-december-06th-2019/
Enjoy your weekends!
