Good evening everyone 👋

This week we launched Edge CDN, allowing consumers to deliver content across the globe, with nodes (your nodes!) in over 80 countries, helping offset the cost of asset manipulation and delivery. We’ve already moved over a number of clients and are serving hundreds of thousands of requests per hour across all Gateways.
The global cache hit rate stands at 97.1% currently, with over 20,000 items cached across all Gateways. Hosts are on average reducing the size of assets by 91.3%, and have processed over 10,000 asset transformations in the last 24 hours alone.
Here’s a live example of what the cache hit rate looks like:

You can see the uptick in traffic on the back of CDN in the node-level statistics in the explorer as well:

And the traffic we’re seeing is global. Here are some examples of community nodes from around the world…

As we mentioned last week, in the spirit of open source software, from which we all benefit so much, we’re taking part in Hacktoberfest this year, the month-long celebration of open-source projects, their maintainers, and the entire community of contributors. Want to learn more about how to participate? Take a look here: https://hacktoberfest.com/participation
In short, we have marked six public repositories with the #hacktoberfest tag: cli
, discord-bots
, explorer
, wallet
, mobile-wallet
, and account
. Feel free to attempt some of the issues in these repositories or, if you have an idea, why not give it a go? Be sure to read the CONTRIBUTING.md
file in each repository and if you need any help, just let us know.
In the spirit of open source software… 🥁
The Edge account portal is now open source 💥
You can find it here:
https://github.com/edge/account
As ever, contributions are welcome and in the coming months, we’ll be introducing our new XE bounty program for open source contributors.
This is a pretty big deal for the network. It means that you can run the account system completely locally, connecting into the Edge Network anonymously via the API. It also means that you can white label it, and build your own cloud offering using Edge infrastructure.
As Adam mentioned last week, we have a list of new features and improvements coming soon, including priority support, server metrics, and much more. This week, post launch, we’ve been focusing on quality of life updates.
The new website is also coming along nicely, and we’re excited to be nearing the point of release.
Work is also underway to increase the number of Stargates operational on the network, and we continue to look at delegated staking on the blockchain.
Now that CDN is live, the time to start referring is here. In your Edge account interface you’ll find a unique referral link, which you can share with your friends, colleagues, and social channels. You will receive 10% commission on the usage of anyone who signs up using your referral code for the lifetime of their engagement. This can easily add up to a highly significant amount.
Over the coming weeks we have a number of commercial clients that will be migrating CDN over to Edge, using the account system. We’ve already started this progress, so if you run a node, keep an eye on your node metrics, we expect 📈!
And that’s it for this week.
Enjoy your weekends 🍻
