Good evening all 👋
This week has been a short week, with most of the core team enjoying two national holidays for a long weekend. Still, we were as busy as usual at the start of the week.
Work on the account system is progressing well, with server backups now working from the user interface, including creating, restoring, removing, and viewing previous backups. There have been improvements to account security, and to the way in which the user interface handles server events (deployments, power cycles, backups, etc.).
On the billing side, service charges are now being recorded in testnet, and work on daily settlement of bills is next on the list. If you’re interested in learning more about how the billing system will work and how it will utilise XE, take a look at last week’s update 👆
There have also been a number of smaller tasks completed, including alterations to 2FA, updates to account recovery flows, and a whole bunch of other fixes and improvements.
Some of you have asked about fluctuations in payouts for Host nodes.
The daily payout for nodes is completely dynamic, being calculated based on a number of factors. This means that sometimes factors outside your control can change how much your node earns, fewer nodes online means you’ll earn more, and vice versa. As we expand the Gateway layer, regional pockets of Hosts will emerge, with payouts reflecting this.
Speaking of which, expansion of the Gateway layer on testnet is complete, with mainnet Gateway expansion expected to be rolled out next week. The first stage of this rollout will see points of presence in 8 locations around the globe, localising traffic networks between clients, Gateways, and Hosts.
The DNS layer in the network is now live on mainnet, running in 24 Stargates. A number of domains are already in production, including of course edge.network.
And that’s pretty much it for this week!

Enjoy your weekends.
