Weekly Update: W/C 22nd May, 2023

As part of Edge’s ongoing commitment to transparency and development in the open, the core team write weekly updates to the Edge community. This is the 216th of these updates.

Good evening @everyone 👋 Sorry it’s so late! 😴

I hope everyone has had a good week. Those of you in the UK will know that it’s a bank holiday on Monday (again) – we hope you enjoy the long weekend. Some of the team will be taking well deserved breaks next week so we’ll be reduced in number for the shorter week.

The governance proposal “Reduce the cost of staking a Host node” has just closed, with 29 votes cast, with 75.9% in favour, 20.7% against, and 3.4% abstaining.

You can access the proposal here:

And the discussion thread for the proposal here:

Thanks to everyone who took part, your voices matter and the core team will follow up on the proposal with a response and we’ll then take it from there.

This week the team has been working on monitoring and metrics extraction for Gateway queues, ahead of some work to improve the way in which jobs are distributed to hosts. This is the first part in a series of roadmap items to both improve the performance of Gateways through job distribution, and in the eventual update of earnings from availability based earnings to work-share based earnings.

Additionally this week:

Account API v1.15.2 was deployed to mainnet, adding more administrative APIs to provide more support to account management.

Explorer v1.26.1 was deployed to mainnet. This fixed a minor visual bug on the overview page.

The team continues to assist a number of partners with integrating their products and services with Edge. This includes a security start up and an AI company. We’ll be sharing more on these in due course.

The Edge website is way overdue for an overhaul, and this has been progressing well. I expect to be sharing some preview screens either in next week’s update, or the week after.

We’re aware of an issue with the previous Lottery draw missing out a number of transactions. The transactions in question have been identified and XE will be paid out over the coming week to the transactions that were missed and would otherwise have won. Fixes are now in place so that all eligible transactions are synchronised prior to draws. We’ll also write up a short synopsis of the issue and the resolution.

And that’s all for now!

Enjoy your weekend 🍻
